Andrea Nicole Ratfield, President
Andrea Nicole Ratfield is a Delta Air Lines Captain on the MD88/MD90 Fleet based out of Minneapolis. She began her career with Delta Air Lines as a Flight Attendant in 1999, then worked with Song, a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, and was later rehired back at Delta in February 2007 as a Pilot in Delta’s first new hire Pilot class since 2001. Andrea is a native Californian and graduated from the University of Miami (Florida) in 1998 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism and Criminology, with an original career path into the FBI or CIA after completing her internship with the United States Secret Service under the Clinton Administration. Andrea’s pilot career began as a birthday present to herself, which was originally scheduled to take place on September 11, 2001. She chose to leave her Flight Attendant position at Song to dedicate herself fully to flight training and to building her flight time through Flight Instructing and flying at various Charter, Corporate and Regional companies in South Florida, Nebraska and Michigan.
She has two young sons and currently resides in Minnesota. Andrea developed a strong sense of devotion for volunteering, special needs and the nonprofit sector after her older son was diagnosed with autism in 2011. Since then her passion to help and serve others has led her to become a strong advocate in the autism community as well as a positive role model in the aviation world. In 2015, Andrea recognized a need to create a safe, encouraging and supportive community for fellow female pilots to help them in their aviation journeys. She joined with fellow colleagues (Christine Pudas, Dawn Cook and Trina Huarte) at a mentor training event and shortly thereafter, Female Aviators Sticking Together (F.A.S.T.) was born and has since grown into a global 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting over 8000 female pilots in their aviation goals, dreams and endeavors.
Andrea is honored to be the President, and one of the founders, of F.A.S.T. and adores seeing the confident and affirming influence that Female Aviators has become for women worldwide. She believes wholeheartedly in giving back to others and “paying it forward” in life. Andrea’s passion to mentor and support pilots in the aviation industry, as well as volunteering and advocating for children and families in the special needs communities, has given Andrea her deep appreciation for life through fostering and developing uplifting, safe and trusting relationships.
